Our story:

Sustainable solutions for families in need.

Meet the Creators behind Peace Culture Apparel

Introducing

Leah McGowan

I am a born and raised Texan who first went to Ukraine on a vision trip in 2016. At the time, I was exploring ways to practice my faith through non-profit charity work. After visiting several countries, I felt a strong pull to the beautiful culture of Ukraine and started building and growing relationships there.

Before moving to Ukraine with my husband and our (at the time) 1 year old son for non-profit work in 2022, I had a rewarding background in the retail industry and eventually opened an online shop offering design for product-based businesses and selling my own handmade gifts through online marketing and brick and mortar boutiques.

I closed my shop as the demands of non-profit work skyrocketed and we prepared to move our family overseas. During our time in Ukraine, I fully immersed myself in family strengthening efforts by working alongside non-profits in administration, branding, and fundraising efforts.

I met Ira while volunteering with a local non-profit, and together we witnessed firsthand the struggles of faith-based non-profits navigating major political struggles, as well as vulnerable families displaced by war. Mothers everywhere were looking for meaningful, flexible work. Over the next year and a half, we prayed, dreamed, and created an opportunity to support families in Ukraine through our business initiative. As we grow, our dream is to give back to family-strengthening efforts. This led us to launch Peace Culture Apparel. We are so grateful that you are here and the valuable role you play in our story!

Introducing

Ira Popova

I am a Ukrainian, a wife, and a mother of two. I have a deep love for beautiful things that carry meaning. I believe that everyday items like a T-shirt or a mug can be transformed from ordinary to unique and meaningful through great design. The idea of creating a clothing brand that inspires and uplifts has been on my heart for a long time. When I met the talented Leah, I realized that together we could bring this vision to life. I am grateful to God for this encounter and for bringing me closer to such a wonderful person with a big heart.

This work allows me to rediscover and express my creative potential, which often gets overshadowed by the daily responsibilities of caring for my family, dealing with difficult news of war, and managing everyday tasks. It brings a spark of joy and fulfillment into my life, reminding me of the importance of creativity even in the midst of life’s challenges and busyness.

Together,

our shared mission
